13 Tracks of ‘meh’

If you are like me and most of America, you fall for Fall Out Boy. Fall Out Boy is the band that everyone loves to hate, hates to love, and somehow hates to hate and loves to love. They actually, in a 2006’ish reader poll of Alternative Press, received the most votes for best band as well as worst band in alternative rock. Every time the new Fall Out Boy album drops, you hear that first track and say to yourself, “wow, they lost it.” Then, magically, three weeks later, there you are singing This Aint a Scene, It’s An Arms Race at the top of your lungs driving north on the 99.
They are catchy, they are different, they grab your attention by the throat, whether you like it or not, and choke you into pop-punk submission. That is, until Folie A Deux, FOB’s latest album.
I just finished listening to the record from start to finish and there is one thing that crossed my mind, “I don’t remember a single word.” The whole thing seemed very unoriginal, uncreative, un-listenable and un-Fall Out Boy. Not a single song jumped out at me. Not one. It truly is a sad day in pop culture history. Could this be the day that FOB finally ran out of the spicy mustard that kept their bologna sandwich of a band interesting? Well…
…I’ll tell you in three weeks.
