This is a picture of the 58 yard field goal that Fresno State Kicker, Kevin Goessling scored to win at Utah State on Saturday.
Now, for those of you not familiar with Fresno State’s kicker situation, Goessling has been astoundingly horrible this season, his Freshman season. I have to assume that Fresno State has no backup kicker or Goessling would have, and should have, been benched three weeks ago. Hell, earlier in the game he missed a glorified extra point attempt, at 22 yards. In the home opener against then 8th ranked Wisconsin, he missed 3 easy field goals that would have decided the game, which ended 13-10. This season has been less than stellar for the freshman.
Looking at this picture I am amazed that the same person kicked this ball. That would have been good from 68 yards!
So, congratulations Kevin Goessling on making a miracle shot, saving what should have been a practice game against a 1-7 Utah State team. Everyone may be convinced that you are now our savior, but it is going to take a lot more than a few lucky shots to get me. Start making the easy ones, that’s the job of a kicker. The long ones are a bonus.
