Never Forget

At tomorrow’s home opener against Wisconsin, the Fresno State Bulldogs will reveal their true mascot, as decided by an Internet poll.  The options are these two:

The old, slightly overweight TimeoutThe new, Personal Trainer Timeout

The mascot on the left is the old timeout who was replaced last year without the knowledge of the fans.  This was an atrocity, most feel, as the old Timeout was slightly overweight, seemingly drunk and quite rowdy, which best represented the fans of Fresno State football.

The mascot on the right was introduced last year to much dismay.  Nobody asked, nor did they want a replacement Timeout.  This dog looked nothing like the old mascot.  Heck, they weren’t even the same color.

The new Timeout received a lot of mean spirited, downright nasty, and sometimes threatening messages on his MySpace page (yes, both Timeoutshave myspace pages).  Some recent comments include:

  • “Are you some kind of cat? I hate you.”-Fresno State Football
  • “i want to rub your tummy, timeout.
    that’s a good boy.
    who loves timeout ? ? ?

    NOBODY!!!!! YOU SUCK!!!!!”- rudegirl67
  • “Happy Birthday. You still suck.” -Ol’ Ojisan/Dude/Hancock

This sparked a poll, placed on the Athletic department’s website to determine who would be the true Timeout.  Unfortunately, this poll was only up for a limited time during the summer, when most students are back home working babysitting jobs to save up for next semester.

Only time will tell if the Old Timeout gets to see justice served. But be warned that if the new Timeout comes running out of that tunnel at halftime, there will be a lot of upset students at Fresno State.  Because, honestly, we are the Fresno State Bulldogs.  We shouldn’t have a mascot that looks like Gary The No-Trash Cougar.
