Fresno State def. Rutgers 24-7; Ranked 21st Nationally

Ryan Mathews, high-stepping one of his 3 touchdowns into the end zone.

Not 24/7, as in all day, but the dogs did ruin the Scarlet Knights week.  After a stagnant first half, the Fresno State offense started picking up where the defense had been the first half, making plays.  A huge 77 yard pass from Brandstater to Ajirotutu sparked the offense in the 3rd quarter, which saw Sophomore Running Back Ryan Mathews run for over 100 yards and three touchdowns.  The Bulldog’s defense also didn’t let up, stuffing the Rutgers O several times in the red zone throughout the game.  It also helped that the Knights’ kicker, San San Te, no joke, was shanking more balls than Lorena Bobbitt.

Fresno State, who was barely unranked in the AP Poll, but 25th in the Coaches poll, at the beginning of the week, is now ranked 21st in the nation.

Another good look was that the Wisconsin Badgers, who will be in Fresno on the 13th, gave up 17 points to scrubs Akron.  That can be a glimmer of hope for the ‘Dogs who will be coming into that home game as a serious underdog.

In other news, UCLA upset #18 Tennessee, which will make our win over them later this month even better for our rankings.

Go Dogs!!!
