Bound to piss someone off
This weekend was the NFL Draft which, once I got home on Saturday, I watched every minute of. One interesting thing happened on Sunday in the 7th and final round of the draft when Caleb Campbell was drafted to the Detroit Lions.
Campbell played his college ball for the Army and, upon being drafted into the NFL, will no longer have to serve in the armed forces except for some recruiting during the off season. This all comes from a new clause in the Army contract stating their belief that these soldiers will be doing more good for the Army on the field then overseas.
Upon hearing Caleb’s name called from the podium on Sunday, the crowd instantly gave him a standing ovation and started a chant of U-S-A. The anchors of the broadcast were ecstatic about the pick and everyone felt a little more patriotic.
But why?
This man, who signed up for the Army somewhere around 2003 or 2004, when we were already at war, has just worked the system. He basically dodged his duty to serve our country to [possibly] make millions playing football.
His chant of U-S-A should now change to D-E-T-R-I-O-T-L-I-O-N-S. Because he is only going to represent the football team in the eyes of the common man. That is, of course, if he doesn’t get cut from the team. He was drafted in the 7th round after all.
Just needed to get that off of my chest.
