The Answer Is No!
I am 22 years old (almost 23 but we wont talk about that) and ever since I was 19 I have been receiving a similar comment from hundreds of people. Its actually a question, but in asking this question, a certain statement is made. It may be that I read too far into it. It may be that I am blowing things out of proportion. Or, it may be that there’s a conspiracy for all my friends to strategically push my buttons over the years.
”Have you lost weight?”
So simple a question, yet when it is uttered in my direction I somehow become enraged like a bull seeing red. Any variation of the question just sends me into my own little tantrum.
The reason for this Hulk-like trigger of aggression is the simple fact that the answer is “no”. In the spring of 2005 I was down to 240 lbs due to a strict diet (aka being poor) and great time-management skills (aka having no roommate, thus no reason to be home). Since moving out of that apartment in May 2005, I have ballooned to a hefty 300 lbs. This is due to many factors, some of which include:
- Brandon’s Pizzas
- Beer… lots of it
- RDH Buffets
- School
- Work
- Fraternity
- Alberto’s Burritos
All along this three-year journey I have probably been asked a thousand times if I have been losing weight and it has always been sad when I am forced to respond with, “The opposite, actually!” Some may say that this is just a gesture of kindness, but each gesture is just another devastating reminder that I have let myself get to this point.
So, as I attempt to get back into shape and return to my old gym rat ways, please do not ask me if I am losing weight, it will only give me a false sense of self confidence and likely send me into a furious rage.
Thank you
The Rod
