RISE AXELBLOG

An Attempt At Short Fiction.

One day, a boy is playing fetch outside with his dog when the frisbee he threw caught a gust of wind and blew out into the street.  The dog gives chase and runs into the road to retrieve the disc when a pickup slams into the hound, killing him instantly.  The child runs into the street and collapses over his dog’s lifeless body shrieking in hysterical sadness.  Just then, the boy peers through the flood of tears coming down his face and sees a golden lamp lying in the street’s gutter.  He grabs the lamp and begins to rub it hastily.  Just then, a Genie swims out of the mouth of the lamp and with a booming voice, proclaims, “You have freed me from a life of solitude.  I will grant thee one wish.”  The boy, choking back flegmn and tears, responds to the mysterious genie, “I wish today wasn’t the worst day of my life.”  “Your wish,” the Genie announces, “has been granted!”  Just as soon as he appeared, the genie had disappeared back into the lamp.

The next morning, the little boy wakes up to find his family and all of his friends have been killed by the genie.

Yesterday, it turns out, was not the worst day of his life.
